Jangoo hits 95 in win over Americas

Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 opening batsman Amir Jangoo continued his good form with the bat, scoring 95 runs to set up his team’s easy 164-run win over the ICC Americas team in the opening round of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-19 50 over tournament at Demerara Cricket Club in Guyana yesterday.

The T&T vice-captain anchored his team to a competitive 254 all out off 48.3 overs with contributions also coming from Jeron Maniram, who hit 43, Brian Christmas who made 30 and Camillo Carimbocas who got 23.

The ICC Americas team were dismissed for 91 off 40.1 overs with T&T fast bowler Akeel Seetal grabbing four wickets for 21 runs from his nine overs. T&T left-arm spinner Justin Joseph chipped in with three for 15 off ten and off-spinner Samuel Roopnarine finished with two for 11 off 6.1 overs.

Yesterday’s win was T&T’s first positive result in the 2014 Under-19 championships and comes on the heels of their poor showing in the three-day competition when they placed last on the six team standings.

T&T have a bye today and the tournament will have a rest day tomorrow before the action resumes on Thursday.

In other results yesterday, newly crowned three-day champions Guyana started their quest for the double with an easy 76-run win over the Leeward Islands at Enmore while Jamaica defeated Barbados by eight wickets at Bourda Oval. • See
