Jorsling steers Army past Police

League leaders Defence Force continued their stride forward in the Digicel Pro League with a 3-1 win over Police FC, while Central Sharks FC gained their first win in six games with a similar 3-1 scoreline over St Ann's Rangers in a doubleheader at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, on Friday.

Potent forward Devorn Jorsling scored a double while Kevon Carter opened the scoring to see the army/coast guard combination to 28 points and an 11-point lead. Jorsling is the league's leading scorer with 11 goals to date.

Defence Force are trailed by second-placed Caledonia AIA (17 points) and defending champions DIRECTV W Connection (16 points), both with two matches in hand.

Caledonia tackle T&TEC FC, while Connection oppose North East Stars from 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively, at the Ato Boldon tomorrow.

In the 16th minute, on Friday, Carter fired a good strike from just outside the top of the box for his sixth League goal of the season. Army defender Glynn Franklyn failed to double the Defence Force advantage in the 43rd minute, heading an accurate Josimar Belgrave cross wide of the upright.

Jorsling would wait a few seconds into the second half to double the soldiers' advantage. The army sharp-shooter recorded his 11th league goal with a casual low left-footer to the near post.

Police, 1-0 losers to the Defence Force in round one, saw their Christon Thomas head home in the 75th minute to pull closer: 1-2. Thomas comfortably guided substitute Kareem Perry's left side cross into goal from an unmarked position inside the area.

But in the fourth and final minute of added on time, Jorsling improved his personal tally and his team's scoreline with a driving shot from just inside the area and into the Police far netting. It was his fourth double in the last five matches.
