POINT FORTIN Civic coach Reynold Carrington and attacking midfielder Marcus Joseph both picked up the Pro League awards for the month of January 2014.

Former national midfielder and captain Carrington was named Blue Waters Coach of the Month, while Point Fortin  attacking midfielder Marcus Joseph, was  January’s Wendy’s Player of the Month. Joseph’s six goals in five matches during January helped Point Fortin Civic  to climb from the bottom half of the table to now occupy second position.

Meanwhile, W Connection midfielder Joevin Jones and long-standing head coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier—no strangers to individual accolades—were voted November/December Wendy’s Player and Blue Waters Coach of the Month, respectively.

“I feel great receiving this award for the first time,” said the former Trinidad and Tobago 2007 and 2009 FIFA Youth World Cup midfielder. “And it’s something I’d like to continue achieving.”

Under Carrington, Civic have won four and drawn two and lost just one match. He thanked the management, players and supporters of PFC for supporting the team when they went on a skid of six defeats, after winning their first three.

“At some point in time you will have rough patches, but there are supporters who stood with us, to see that we could turn the negative into positive in a short space of time. We are now looking to be consistent.”

Carrington’s former coach and mentor, Charles-Fevrier, explained: “When you are working as a coach, (individual accolades) aren’t things you think about, because you’re more about the business of your job. But having been adjudged Coach of the Month (November/December) it’s something one obviously feels proud of, because your work has been recognised.”

Fevrier, who picked up the Coach of the Month honour for September/October and has already led the “Savonnetta Boys” to the Digicel Charity Shield, Toyota Classic and FA Trophy titles this season, while maintaining a healthy lead at the top of the league standings, said he wants to share the achievement with the entire W Connection staff and players.

Charles-Fevrier also thanked sponsors Blue Waters and Wendy’s for their involvement.

“It’s what the professional league needs at the moment. It’s good to see the Player of the Month and Coach of the Month back. It’s something the players, especially, look forward too. Its something coaches appreciate, so I would say that any award, any incentive is welcomed. Because when you work, you like to be recognised and the incentives motivates you.”

Meanwhile, Jones said: “It’s always good to receive an award. It’s a really great feeling when you have these personal achievements. I’m aiming at taking my (top) performances throughout the season and try to achieve more,” ended the T&T international.
