Kumar tops South Florida field

Top Trinidad and Tobago golfer, Sachin Kumar captured the Overall Boys title by one shot, topping the leaderboard at the South Florida PGA (SFPGA) Junior Tour Championship Event #1, presented by The Honda Classic, at Sandpiper Golf Club at Club Med in Port St Lucie, Florida, USA, on the weekend.

The SFPGA Junior Tour is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 11-18 with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the high school and collegiate level, and features some of South Florida’s most talented junior golfers.

Sixty-four of South Florida’s premier juniors teed it up in the first Championship Tour Event of 2014, and delivered spectacular play.

Kumar struck a 2-under par 68 on the final day of the two-day tournament to claim the Boys Overall 13-18 Division, dethroning defending champion Alberto Martinez, who had set the pace with an opening round 68.

Martinez fired a solid second round 74, but it proved not enough to hold off the charge from Kumar, who had fired a first round of 73. Kumar had a two-day total of 141.
