YOUR last chance to enter the first local tennis tournament of the year is today.
The BG T&T Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament will be contested on a daily basis, from Saturday February 23 to Saturday March 9, at Tranquillity Club, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.
Players can enter no more than three events. There will be men's, women's and veterans' (over-45) singles and doubles, as well as mixed doubles, in the country's leading clay-court tournament. As usual, the men's singles champ will receive $4,000, twice the amount that the women's champ will collect.
The men's singles draw will consist of 32 players, 24 selected automatically and the other eight coming from the qualifying draw on February 23 and 24. The women's singles event is usually a 16-draw.
For the past two years the tournament started the day after qualifying, but the tournament committee decided to return to "Tranquil" tradition, and the official start will be the Saturday after.
Entry forms are available at Harry's Sports, St James Street, San Fernando; the Tennis Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) office, Fitt Street, Woodbrook; and at "Tranquil".
Entries will close at five p.m. at the tournament venue, but three hours earlier at the TATT office and at noon in San Fernando. Tournament director Dion Auguste can be contacted at dionaugusteS@yahoo.com for more information.
