JASON LEGALL was beaten in the under-18 final when the Tobago ITF (International Tennis Federation) Junior Tournament concluded Saturday at Shaw Park. After winning four matches, the second seed, whose mother hails from South Trinidad, went down 6-4, 6-1 against fellow American Pietro Rimondini in the title match.
This youngster cruised through his two matches in qualifying and did not come close to dropping a set from his five in the main draw. Rimondini also won the doubles title.
Nabeel Mohammed was the only one of 15 T&T players to win a match in the division, but after a straight-set win, the two-time defending national under-16 and 18 champion lost a tough three-setter in the “round of 16” against Legall.
In the under-14 division, T&T’s Lily Lanser and Jade Tom Yew reached the doubles final, but were then beaten 6-0, 6-0 by a pair of Americans. Aidan Carter made it to the semis of both singles and doubles-- with Adam Ramissoon.
