Magical Narine steers T&T past CCC

BARBADOS

Sunil Narine continued to weave his web around leaden-footed, unsure batsmen, almost singlehandedly bowling Trinidad and Tobago to an emphatic 172-run victory over Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) in the Regional Four-Day Tournament, yesterday.

The T&T off-spinner enhanced his growing reputation with a career-best eight wickets for 17 runs from 14.1 overs, as CCC, chasing 287 for victory, were dismissed for 114 in their second innings on the third day of their day/night first round match at the Three Ws Oval.

Narine, playing in only his third first-class match for the Red Fury, ended with the amazing match figures of 13 for 39 from 30.1 overs, making him a shoo-in for the Man-of-the-Match award, after the CCC, led by Jason Holder’s 27, offered only token resistance.

The result meant that T&T, eyeing their first Regional Four-Day title in six years, gained 12 points and CCC, last year’s beaten finalists, ended with no points.

At the end of the opening round of matches, T&T, Jamaica and Guyana are joint first on the standings with 12 points each. CCC, Leewards and Windwards have no points. Barbados were on a bye in the first round.
