STAR STUDDED Malabar FC look to get their National Super League season off to a winning start when they host Tobago's 1976 FC Phoenix today at the Larry Gomes Stadium from 4 pm.
Outstanding former Guyanese defender Charles "Lily" Pollard, 40, has joined the team and will also have a coaching role alonside head-coach Julius Edwards.
Meanwhile, experienced players Gorean Highley, Cyrano Glen, Zane Coker, Keston Pierre, Kordell Samuel and Kevaughn Connell have all resigned from last season.
The Arima-based community team has also attracted young talent in Trinidad and Tobago Under 20 striker Kishun Seecharan, former Westside Superstars winger Jack Weadon and defender Orlando Reyes. Adrian Romain is now the general manager after leaving Central FC.
Malabar finished third in the Super League last season and will be strong contenders for honours this term. They were inactive when the Super League resumed last Wednesday as their match against Bethel was postponed.
“The decision to play Super League at age 40 is a very ambitious one,” said Pollard.
“I will be doing my coaching and helping the younger guys to understand the game a bit better on and off the field,” said the former Guyanese captain in a release from the club.
