McKnight sparkles in Texas

Roseman wins high school sprint title

Trinidad and Tobago's Sparkle McKnight earned silver in the women's 400 metres event, at the Red Raider Open indoor track and field meet, in Texas, USA, on Saturday.

The South Plains College student got home in 54.14 seconds, beating another T&T/South Plains athlete, Janeil Bellille (54.83), into third spot.

At the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, in Nebraska, Iowa Central Community College sprinter Reyare Thomas earned silver in the women's 200m in 24.23 seconds.

Thomas got home in 7.60 for sixth spot in the 60m final. In the qualifying round, she had clocked 7.54.

Deborah John was fourth in the women's 60m hurdles. The North Dakota State University athlete got to the line in 8.76 seconds.

In the 60m dash, John was 16th in the preliminaries in 7.76. She clocked 7.78 to finish fifth in the consolation final.

Mikel Thomas was the fastest man on show in the men's 60m hurdles preliminaries, the T&T athlete getting home in 7.87 seconds. However, he did not compete in the final.

In the 60m dash, Thomas was 15th in the qualifying round in 6.92 seconds. He opted out of the consolation final.

And University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) student Aeisha McDavid was tenth in the women's pentathlon with 2,813 points.

Ashlee Smith snapped up silver in the women's shot put and weight throw events, at the Jeff Davis Bank McNeese Indoor II meet, in Louisiana.

The McNeese State University student threw 13.86 metres in the shot put and 17.97m in the weight throw.

At the Varsity Apartments Invitational, in Kansas, Scarla Nero claimed bronze in the women's 3,000m in 10 minutes, 02.09 seconds. Her Wichita State University teammate, Samantha Shukla clocked 10:17.33 to cop eighth spot.

Wichita State sprinter Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel finished sixth in the men's 60m dash in 6.95 seconds. In the 200m, he was 11th in 22.80.

In Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) sophomore, Kendall Bacchus got home in 50.81 seconds for sixth spot in the MTSU Invitational men's 400m event.

At the Rhode Island High School Divisional Championships, Lincoln High student Aaron Roseman struck gold in the Northern Division boys' 55m dash in a hand-timed 6.3 seconds. In the 300m, he clocked 42.3 to finish 14th overall.
