McLeish wins record fifth CariFin title
Nikosi McLeish was recognised last week for a record fifth CariFin Games cross country men’s title when the Games held their prize-giving ceremony last week at the 16th Floor Conference Facilities of the Central Bank.
And among the women, Wendy D’Arbasie was again the standout as she repeated as champion in the 2013 competition.
The top two were not the only big winners, as there were also prizes for the newly-introduced Governor’s Challenge for the best team of five, which had to complete three urban challenges, as well as the cross country run/walk race.
Also awarded were the winners of the best of three (urban challenge) and best of four (overall) categories, as well as Most Improved and Best First Timer accolades in both male and female divisions.
Janeal James was named Ms CariFin 2013.
There were also several novelty team categories, such as Best Tent, Team with the Most Participants, and “R U Fan Enough” contests.
According to a CariFin media release, D’Arbasie and James gave the event two thumbs up.
“It was an entertaining evening, (I) appreciated the number of prizes I received,” D’Arbasie was quoted as saying, while James added: “I found that it is yet another great event by the Committee, it was really good.”
