Men beaten by Argentina

Trinidad and Tobago men's national hockey team got off to a losing start when they went under 9-2 to Argentina in their second round FIH World Hockey league match in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil yesterday.

T&T's Christopher Scipio and Atiba Whittington netted two consolation items in the 57th and 66th minute respectively after the South Americans had rattled off nine goals without replay.

Argentina's Guillermo Schikendantz, Nicolas Vila and Gonzalo Peilat scored a double each to power their side to an easy opening victory.

Argentina are now second in the six-team table with three points and a goal difference of seven, right behind South Africa who shut out hosts Brazil 9-0 to be atop the standings.

Up to press time, the other game on the day featuring Chile against the USA, the game had not been completed.
