Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club is set to host the inaugural Copa Airlines Cross Country Golf Challenge sponsored by NGC on June 19.
The tournament will be the first of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago, with the golf course being set up in a “cross country” fashion, with golfers playing from existing tee boxes to different greens. This changes the course into an entirely new layout and will pose new challenges to even the most accomplished golfers. It is expected that 50 teams of two golfers will compete for prizes which include airline tickets and all inclusive vacation packages to Cartagena, Panama City, Montego Bay and Tobago.
The charity identified to benefit from the tournament is Bridge of Hope located in Sangre Grande. Bridge of Hope is a non-profit organisation established in 1998 as a childcare provider for abandoned, abused and orphaned children.
In addition to the funds raised directly from the event, Bridge of Hope will also benefit from the proceeds of an auction of a framed bat autographed by Test cricket’s past and present record holders for the highest individual score, Sir Garfield Sobers and Brian Lara.
This auction would be held at the prize-giving ceremony at Eurasia Restaurant in Trincity Mall on the evening of the 19 June.
Apart from Copa Airlines and NGC, major sponsors are Decameron All Inclusive Resorts, Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort, Crystal Waters and Fine Art Ltd.
Corporate citizens can contact tournament coordinator, Richard Lara at 681-9864 to get involved in the event or to receive invitations to the auction.
