Minister of Sport Anil Roberts congratulated the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Under-18 team for their victory in the 2nd International Schools Cricket Premier League (ISCPL) T20 Tournament in Lucknow, India on Tuesday.
The Trinidad and Tobago team, comprising players from various secondary schools, participated in the tournament for the first time and finished unbeaten, whipping the host team (City Montessori) by 52 runs in the final.
Commenting on the victory in a media release yesterday, Roberts said it was cause for celebration, not just for the team but for Trinidad and Tobago. Roberts believes the international exposure and experience in touring will bode well for the young cricketers' development and will pave the way for better representation in the future on national and regional cricket teams.
Roberts congratulated the players, coaches and support staff on the win, as well as the Secondary Schools Cricket League for pursuing the initiative, which was supported by the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago to the tune of $180,000.00, covering the airfare costs of the players.
The players will return to Trinidad this week, and resume playing in the Secondary Schools League.
