Mohammed is top seed in Argentina
NAIM MOHAMMED has been seeded to win the boys’ under-19 title at the Argentina Junior International Badminton Tournament.
The tournament will be contested in Buenos Aires from tomorrow until Sunday, and the Trinidad and Tobago player is also seeded second in the doubles draw.
Mohammed will be partnered by Jose Gueverra Llatas. He was also expected to play mixed doubles with another Peruvian player, but she was forced to withdraw because of a shoulder injury. Mohammed came into prominence late last year when he handed national under-19 champion Jason Ramjass his first singles defeat in 18 months in the under-21 final of the Central Badminton Academy & Club Tournament.
The 17-year-old, who represents Cristars Club, began this season where he left off last year when he won the under-19 category in the junior ranking singles tournament a couple weeks ago.
This will not be Mohammed’s first overseas tournament as he competed and managed to win a round in the Suriname International Open in late November.
The Ministry of Sport, the Trinidad and Tobago Badminton Association and Solo Beverages funded the youngster’s trip.
