ToolsNjisane bids for 'Avenue' honoursOlympic sprint semifinalist Njisane Phillip will line up for Team Beacon in today's Beacon's Cycling on the Avenue event, on Ariapita Avenue in Woodbrook. Starting time is 7.30 p.m. US outfit, Team Vita Malt will have a team of four—Jean Michael-Lachance, Augusto Sanchez, Adam Carr and Logan Cornel—competing in the main event, the final Open ride that will cover 36 laps of the course, starting in the vicinity of Mike's Bikes. UK rider Peter Jacques is part of the Rapha Condor team, which also includes Christian House, Luke Grizell-Mellor, Chris Jemmings, Michael Cuming and Hugo Cathy. Local team, Rafmon will feature Jamaican Marloe Rodman, the 2011 Beacon Cycling Festival winner, who is in very good form and will be considered a big contender for the event. The Cycling on the Avenue programme also includes a one-lap sprint, where $2,500 will go to the winner, as well as four-lap races for the Juveniles, Juniors, Ladies and Category Four and Five riders. There will also be races for the 40-plus, 50-plus and 60-plus masters. In addition, there will be a two-lap run in both the men's and ladies' categories. Registration for the event opens at six p.m., before the official opening ceremony starts at 7.30. |
