By Roger Seepersad

North and East are through to the semi-finals of the BG T&T Under-17 InterZone tournament after big wins in their respective Group B matches on Wednesday.

North beat Tobago by seven wickets at St Mary’s College Ground in St Clair and have six points from their two wins so far in the competition.

East also have six points following their 90-run win over North East at Aranjuez Ground on Wednesday.

Sachin Seecharan hit 59 to help East reach a respectable 207 for six from their reduced 42 overs before leg-spinner Kirstan Kallicharan grabbed five for 31 to dismiss North East for 116 off 30.1 overs.

North East and Tobago are winless in the competition and have no chance of making it to the semi-finals.

In Group A, Central maintained their place at the top of standings after a four-wicket win over South East at Presentation College Ground in Chaguanas. They have six points from two matches with one game to play in the group stage.

South are second with three points from their only game so far. They beat South West by nine wickets on Wednesday but still have two matches to play after their first round encounter against South East was postponed.

Despite losing their game on Wednesday, South East can still make the semi-finals if they win their remaining two matches.
