Trinidad and Tobago opener Justin Guillen and Barbados all-rounder Dwayne Smith scored contrasting centuries yesterday to put Queen's Park Cricket Club in full control of their Eastern Credit Union Premier Division match against Moosai Sports at Honeymoon Park, El Dorado.

Guillen scored 101 off 110 balls with 13 fours while Smith blasted ten sixes and three fours in his 51-ball 101 which helped the Parkites reach 421 for seven declared shortly after tea on the first day.

In reply, Moosai were struggling on 104 for six at the close after an aggressive start from their openers Brian Yearwood and Mario Belcon.

Elsewhere, CLICO Preysal won first innings points against Ceramic Merry Boys at Inshan Ali Park, denting Merry Boys' hopes of gaining ground on leaders Queen's Park, who may very well run away with the title today if they come out on top at Honeymoon Park. Merry Boys were dismissed for 76 with Yannic Cariah taking five for 24. In reply, the hosts were bowled out for 109 and Merry Boys, batting a second time, were 94 for three.

Alescon Comets also won first innings points yesterday thanks to a good all-round effort from Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Imran Khan.

Khan took three for 31 to help dismiss W Connection Wanderers for 137 and then scored 146 as Comets reached 273 for four at the close.

In the other match this weekend, an unbroken 96-run eighth wicket partnership between Jason Mohammed (54 not out) and Richard Kelly (65 not out) helped T&TEC Sports recover from 84 for seven to reach 180 for seven against First Citizens Clarke Road United, at Point Lisas.

At Honeymoon Park, Moosai's decision to bowl first after winning the toss in sunny conditions backfired as the Parkites opening pair of Nicholas Alexis and Guillen dished out some major punishment before lunch. They shared a 153-run opening stand before Alexis was bowled by Mahendra Nagamootoo, but that hardly slowed things down.

Queen's Park went into the break on 201 for one with Guillen three away from his first triple-figure score of the season. With him was Runako Morton, on 30.

The second session, though dominated by the visitors, offered some encouragement for Moosai, who got four more wickets before tea with Nagamootoo again in the thick of things. He trapped Guillen lbw before Marlon Bharath removed Morton for 90 (78 balls). Smith then took the game further away from Moosai with his quick-fire century, which he brought up with a six before being run out in the same over.

When Moosai batted, Belcon hit 20, which included four fours, before he skied Smith to Alexis at long leg. Yearwood made 37, which included seven fours and one six, before he was bowled by Sunil Narine (three for 17).

All matches resume today, at 9.30 a.m., with the Parkites hoping to close in on first innings points which would almost certainly ensure they win the Premier Division trophy.

For Moosai, their survival in the Premier Division will depend on whether they can hold on against a rampaging Queen's Park team. With six wickets down their task is a very difficult one.
