PM lauds cricketers

(The following is a release issued from the Office of the Prime Minister congratulating personalities in the field of cricket)

“It is with great pride and honour that I offer my heartfelt congratulations to a number of outstanding individuals who have excelled in the area of sport, particularly in cricket.
These individuals have proven themselves to be exceptional role models as they continue to demonstrate true dedication, ambition and enthusiasm. I extend best wishes to West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin as he prepares to take on the role as West Indies Test captain.
Mr. Ramdin is highly capable and qualified for this post, as his past achievements have fully prepared him to successfully lead the West Indies Test cricket team forward, and I have no doubt that he will lead the team to tremendous victories. Ramdin was the standing West Indies Test Vice Captain and previously served as West Indies Under 19 and A Team captain. I know that he will continue to preserve the enviable reputation of the West Indies just as former captain Darren Sammy has done.
I must also make mention of yet another exceptional cricketer, Mr. Dwayne Bravo who remains as the West Indies One Day captain. I wish him a speedy recovery from his injury as he continues to be a remarkable leader and teammate. Additionally, I must commend Mr. Azim Bassarath on being elected again to serve as the Chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.
Not only has men’s cricket put uson the international stage, but so too have women. Women’s cricket is just as important and I would like to commend Ms Merissa Aguillera who is the West Indies Women’s Captain who took us to the semi-finals of the Women’s T-20 World Cup in Bangladesh in February.
As these outstanding individuals take on their new roles, I would like to congratulate them once again and I wish them great success in their future endeavours as they lead us to great victories.”
