JALICIA Ross-Kydd captured an individual award at the conclusion of Group Q in the third round of NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) qualifying in Cuba last Saturday for the Women’s World Volleyball Championships.

The Trinidad and Tobago player made the All-Star team by being voted one of the two Best Middle Blockers of the group after Cuba whipped her team in three straight sets to qualify for World Championships in September.

However the five-time Caribbean champs have one more chance to book tickets to Italy as the runners-up of all five groups in third round regional qualifying will square off in Trinidad from June 2-9 and the winners will earn NORCECA’s fifth and spot in the prestigious tournament.

No team from the English-speaking Caribbean has ever qualified for the World Championships in the sport.

Despite the fact that they finished third of four in the group and were then beaten by the fourth-placed Haiti for the bronze medal, Curacao picked up two awards.
