Paragon, Petrotrin beat Dames in Ventures tourney

Defending women's champions Paragon defeated Notre Dame 8-6 to win their match on the second day of the tenth annual Ventures Hockey Club's Invitational International Indoor Hockey Tournament at Woodbrook Youth Facility on Friday.

National stickwomen Kristin Thompson and Zene Henry each netted a hat-trick, and teammates Alanna Lewis and Arielle Williams chipped in with one goal each for the Colin Thompson-coached Paragon.

Fellow national player Blair Wynne scored three times for Notre Dame in a losing effort. The other scorers were Dana De Gannes (two goals), and Tamia Roach.

On the men's side, 2012 champions Petrotrin shook off their first day narrow 8-7 loss to QPCC with an 8-1 thumping of Notre Dame.

Triston Grant spearheaded the Oilmen's charge to victory with a hat-trick, and his teammate Wayne Legerton added a double. Dwain Quan Chan, Ariel Bowen, and Solomon Eccles each notched one goal apiece.

Today is the final day of the four-day tournament, and will feature the semi-finals of both divisions as well as the the finals of those groups.

The teams in the Open Divisions are competing for a top prize of US$1,000 each, plus a trophy and hampers while there will also be individual awards for the Most Valuable Player, Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Most Goals in each category.
