Parkites whip Diamond United in Sunday League

Queen's Park Cricket Club started their Premier Division Sunday League title defence with a dominating 157-run win over newcomers F&E Diamond United in their Group A match at Kennedy Park, Diamond Village in South Trinidad, yesterday.

The Parkites skipper, Justin Guillen hit 65, while allrounder Akeal Hosein scored 45 to lead the Port of Spain club to a competitive 247 for eight in 50 overs.

The defending champions then dismissed their hosts for 121 in 42 overs to complete a big win. Medium pacer Daron Cruickshank grabbed three for 30 and Hosein took two for 17 for the Parkites.

In Group B, PowerGen, led by a half century from Trinidad and Tobago skipper Denesh Ramdin, defeated Alescon Comets by six wickets in a low-scoring game at Syne Village, Penal.

PowerGen dismissed Comets for 131 before Ramdin hit 51 off 41 balls with five fours and three sixes to steer the hosts to victory.

Nicholas Sookdeosingh also played a part in the win. He hit 42 off 51 balls with three fours and a six

PowerGen are in action today against Merry Boys at Syne Village, while Queen's Park travel to Aranjuez for their Round Two clash with another newly promoted club, Hafeez Karamath Limited Aranjuez Sports, who will be looking to rebound from their close seven-run loss to Esmeralda, yesterday.
