Phoenix Women dent Technocrats' title hopes

Technocrats suffered a big blow to their title defence when they were trounced by 91 runs by Phoenix Women Cricket Club in Trinidad and Tobago Women's Cricket Association (TTWCA) Premiership action.

At Squadron Ground in Arouca last week Sunday, Phoenix Women dismissed Technocrats for just 115 after amassing 206 runs for five wickets in 38 overs.

Batting first, Phoenix got half-centuries from Premiership Player of the Round Shenelle Lord, who scored an unbeaten 52, and Amanda Samaroo, who made 51. Felicia Walters was there at the end with Lord on 27 not out, while Rakeal Bissoon also chipped in with 21.

Technocrats' Afiya Fletcher and Desiree Simon shared the five Phoenix wickets.

But when Techocrats batted, only Whitney Cudjoe resisted the Phoenix bowling with 42 as the next best score of 13 came from Oire Trotman.

Crystal Hanslal was the main weapon for Phoenix, snaring four wickets for just 11 runs, and Lord and Stephanie Ramcharan grabbed two wickets each as Technocrats folded in 29 overs.

It was revenge for Phoenix Women, who were edged out by Technocrats for the League title last year on run rate after both teams finished on the same number of points.

Moosai Ladies had a good outing too, a 111-run win over Spice Girls at El Dorado West Secondary, and Cricket Lovers edged past Maaad Rangers by two wickets at Manzanilla.

In Championship action, Hibiscus Ladies bowled out Achievers for 41, winning their low-scoring encounter by 65 runs after they scored 106 at Arima North Secondary.

Hibiscus Ladies' Shanice Pascall was the Championship Player of the Round for taking five wickets against Achievers.
