ToolsPhoenix Women take TTWCA opening day tourneyPhoenix Women opened the 2013 Trinidad and Tobago Women's Cricket Association (TTWCA) women's cricket season with a bang, beating defending champions Technocrats to take the NLCB-sponsored opening day Six-a-Side tournament on Sunday. At Eddie Hart Ground in Tacarigua, Phoenix Women posted 42 without loss batting first in the final, while Technocrats in response reached 37 for two. Felicia Walters and Shenelle Lord were the opening bats for Phoenix, scoring 24 not out and 18 not out respectively. Gaitri Seetahal (22 not out) was the top-scorer in Technocrats' reply, while Britney Cooper and Shenelle Lord shared the two wickets. Technocrats reached the final after whipping Spice Girls by 48 runs. They had posted 94 without loss with Stacy Ann King (48 not out), and Seetahal (33 not out). Phoenix had a tougher time advancing, but edged defending League and knockout champs Moosai Ladies by two runs. The Phoenix Women restricted Moosai Ladies to 42 for three after posting 44 for the same number of wickets. In the end King ruled the batting with a total of 135 runs in her five innings, and was out only once. Her 48 was the tournament high score, and her average was 135.00. Walters was the next best bat and most impressive of the bowlers, her four wickets in five outings coming at an average of 9.75. She conceded just 39 runs, and had the best bowling figures of two for four in a match.
