Pooran in form for T&T U-17s

Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran geared up for the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-17 Tournament with an unbeaten 121 in his team's huge 160-run victory over a Tobago House of Assembly (THA) XI in their warm-up match at Shaw Park, Tobago yesterday.

Pooran hit eight fours and six sixes in his 85-ball knock, leading his team to a competitive 282 for seven off their 50 overs after they were sent in to bat.

Also making runs yesterday were all-rounder Brian Christmas, who got 55, and opener Jeremy Solozano, who scored 35.

Leg-spinner Jesse Bootan then snatched four for 29 to help dismiss the THA XI for 122 in 41 overs, giving the T&T contingent a big boost of confidence ahead of their opening match of the Regional U-17 Tournament against the Leeward Islands at the same venue from 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Summarised scores:

T&T U-17 282/7 (50 overs) (Nicholas Pooran 121 n.o., Brian Christmas 55, Jeremy Solozano 35, Al Small 21; Antonio Providence 2/41, DeJourn Charles 1/35) vs THA XI 122 all out (41 overs) (Shaquille Duncan 42, Iraq Thomas 20; Jesse Bootan 4/29, Bryan Charles 2/18, Al Small 2/19)--T&T U-17s won by 160 runs.
