PowerGen start T20 defence against Preysal

PowerGen Sports start their Premier Division Twenty20 title defence today when they host CLICO Preysal in the opening round Group B match at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, from 2 p.m.

PowerGen boasts a strong line-up which includes hard-hitting opening batsman Nicholas Sookdeosingh, Guyanese batsman Rajindra Chandrika as well as the experienced spin pair Varoon Samaroo and Kavesh Kantasingh.

Preysal have a young side with some promising players which includes West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Bryan Charles.

In the feature match in Group A, last year’s runner-up Queen’s Park Cricket Club take on Seenath’s Auto Bamboo Sports at Queen’s Park Oval with Kieron Pollard expected to take the field for the hosts.

Pollard, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since late last year, has recuperated and was part of the Queen’s Park team for their two-day league game against Esmeralda at the Oval last weekend.

The T20 competition will feature two groups of six teams each with the defending champions seeded in Group B and last year’s runner-up seeded in Group A. The teams will play each other once in a round robin phase with the top four in each group advancing to the quarterfinals.
