The BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Big Five kicks off today with South Zone champions Presentation College San Fernando taking on Tobago winners Speyside High School in the feature match of a double-header at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
The showdown is a quarter-final match-up, and will kick off at five p.m. It will be preceded by the Girls’ Big Four semi-final clash between South Zone winners Fyzabad Secondary and Tobago champions Bishop’s High School, Tobago. The Big Four match starts at three p.m.
Action in both competitions continues on Wednesday with another double-header at Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, where the best North Zone boys and girls teams will come up against the best the East Zone has to offer.
At two p.m., Bishop’s Anstey High School, who won their first North Zone title this season, take on St Augustine Secondary in a Girls’ Big Four semi-final.
That match will be followed by the Boys’ Big Five semi-final, starting at four p.m., featuring North Zone winners St Mary’s College and East Zone champions St Augustine Secondary.
The other Big Five semi is scheduled for Thursday at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, between the Central Zone champions Chaguanas North Secondary and the winners of today’s clash between Pres San Fernando and Speyside.
However, Thursday’s game is still in doubt after questions were raised over the eligibility of two players used by Chaguanas North in their 2013 campaign.
The SSFL officials will meet today to make a determination on that matter, and depending on their decision, second-placed Central Zone team Carapichaima East Secondary could be elevated to the top spot.
Carapichaima East and Chaguanas North finished on the same number of points after the regular season, with the latter taking the top spot based on a superior goal difference.
The Big Four and Big Five finals take place next Monday, but the venue for those matches is still to be decided.
