Pres closer to South Zone title

By Ian Prescott ian.prescott@trinidadexpress.com

THE only thing better than winning nine out of nine matches, is a 100 percent record after ten outings.

Yesterday, Presentation College inched closer to the South Zone title in the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) with an emphatic victory over bottom team Moruga, at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, in Mara-bella. But defending champions, Shiva Boys ensured that Presentation did not celebrate winning the South Zone crown as yet, by beating Princes Town and keeping their slim hopes alive of defending their title.

A 10th victory in as many matches continued a dream season for Presentation College, and inched them closer to the South Zone title, with two rounds of matches still left. Shackiel Henry netted six goals, and Akil Pierre scored twice, while Angel Williams, Kyle Moody and Rakeem Francis got one apiece.

Presentation now have a maximum 30 points from 10 matches, with two matches left. Shiva Boys, meanwhile, have 22 points from nine matches after beating Princes Town 4-2, yesterday. Shiva Boys can reach 31 points by winning their last three matches.

Presentation are on a bye in midweek, while Shiva Boys play their outstanding match against Moruga. Providing Shiva win, they will meet Presentation in a showdown on Saturday.

"Our focus is not Shiva Boys because only they can prevent us winning the South title," said Presentation manager Michel Toney, yesterday. "The more you win the more player management becomes important.

"We expected to have a good season because we have basically the same team from last year. We lost three players, but we had a good group of under-16s to fill the gap. But even in pre-season we knew that Shiva Boys would give us the most competition this season."
