Queen's Park maintain Premier Division lead

Defending Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Premier Division champions Queen's Park Cricket Club maintained their place at the top of the standings after claiming first innings points in their drawn sixth-round match against Alescon Comets at Pierre Road, Charlieville yesterday.

After scoring 259 all out in their first innings on Saturday, the Parkites returned yesterday to dismiss Comets for 178, with young left-arm spinner Khary Pierre taking four for 40 and veteran off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth picking up three for 27.

Batting a second time, Queen's Park declared their innings at 169 for six, with Lincoln Roberts hitting 40.

Imran Khan, who was dropped from the national team for the Regional Four-Day Tournament semi-final against Barbados at Queen's Park Oval, was the best bowler for Comets over the weekend. He picked up four for 49 in the second innings to finish with seven wickets in the match.

Comets were batting 93 for two at the close yesterday, with Khan making 47 to help his team earn a share of the points.

LLumar Esmeralda kept pressure on the leaders with an easy 130-run win over W Connection Wanderers at Esmeralda.

Esmeralda scored 309 in their first innings and dismissed Wanderers for 170 yesterday, with former T&T pacer Mervyn Dillon leading the charge, taking five for 49.

Esmeralda amassed 160 for eight declared in their second innings before Dillon wrecked Wanderers again, taking four for 27 as the California club were dismissed for 169.

The win helped Esmeralda reclaim second spot on the table heading into the tournament break.

The competition breaks from April 2 to 20 and resumes with round seven on April 21.

Also notching a win yesterday were Merry Boys, who defeated SIS Central Sports by 43 runs at Invaders Ground, Felicity.
