By Kern De Freitas

Defending champions Queen's Park Cricket Club confirmed their spot in the semi-finals of the 2012 Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Sunday League Premiership 50-over competition with a 78-run victory over SIS Central Sports in Group A yesterday.

Hosting Central Sports at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, the "Parkites" won the toss and elected to bat. And led by a half-century from their captain, opener Justin Guillen, the champs posted 261 for six in their 50 overs.

In addition to Guillen's 63, Petrock Nicholas (47 runs), Marlon Barclay (45) and Runako Morton (35) also had crucial contributions to ensure the home team posted a competitive score.

Bowling for Central Sports, Alex Antoine, Dane Teelucksingh and Mahendra Nagamootoo each grabbed two wickets.

Antoine returned in Central Sports' reply to blast a match-high 82, but apart from Nagamootoo's 25, he had little support. Central Sports folded for 183 in 41.1 overs.

Daron Cruickshank was QPCC's best bowler with figures of four for 37, while Amit Jaggernauth and Usman Muhammad took two wickets apiece.

Also in Group A, Esmeralda Sports got their first victory of the competition, whipping W Connection Wanderers by eight wickets, but PowerGen Penal Sports Club had their match versus First Citizens Clarke Road United at Syne Village abandoned due to bad weather.

Ceramic Merry Boys Sports Club were big winners in Group B, thrashing CLICO Preysal by 155 runs.

In their home fixture at St Mary's College Ground in St Clair, Merry Boys stumbled to 210 for nine in 45 overs on the back of Aaron Alfred, but returned to dismiss Preysal for just 55.
