Rain aids Guyana in achieving historic double

Guyana have achieved the historic double of winning the Regional Under-19 three-day and 50-over titles in the same year. The Guyanese were adjudged champions of the One-day competition after wet conditions forced the abandonment of the final at Everest, yesterday.

A release from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) says under the rules of the competition, Guyana are the winners. They have already copped the three-day title for the first time since 2007.

The hosts emerged with six convincing wins from as many games, chalking up 36.4 points to gain automatic entry to the final. They were due to play Windward Islands who stopped Jamaica’s run to the finals with a nine wicket win.
