Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) executive member Patrick Rampersad was elected the new chairman of the North Zone following the zonal AGM (Annual General Meeting) at the TTCB’s office at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain on Thursday night.
The Movement for Change member and supporter of the incumbent Azim Bassarath-led TTCB administration defeated Brigadier Carl Alfonso in the zonal AGM with outgoing chairman Don Asgarali using his casting vote to break tie after both candidates got eight votes each.
Asgarali’s casting vote ensured that Rampersad, who was the outgoing vice chairman, defied the Dinanath Ramnarine-led slate to take the chairmanship post in the North.
But the other North Zone executive positions went the Ramnarine slate with Rommel Romiah being elected as vice chairman, Winston Sobers as secretary and Mahabir Ragoonanan as treasurer.
Romiah beat Jemma Jordan for the post of vice-chairman with a vote of 10-6 while Sobers beat Gregorie King by the same margin for the secretary position.
Ragoonanan was unopposed. The outgoing executive members were Asgarali who was the chairman and Stephen Martel, who was the secretary.
The three North Zone representatives that will vote at the TTCB AGM are Alfonso, Sobers and Ragoonanan.
The remaining two Zonal AGMs are expected to be completed before the end of next week with South East Zone AGM was scheduled for last night while the Central Zone AGM will take place next week.
The TTCB AGM and elections will take place on October 26 at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.
