Rangers start women's team

St Ann's Rangers Football Club have formed a women's team and will see their first action when the 2012 season of the Trinidad and Tobago Women's League Football (WOLF) kicks off today.

Rangers Women face Step By Step from 4 p.m. in the First Division (North Zone) at St Joseph's Convent Ground, Federation Park.

It is the first time in the club's 32-year history that St Ann's Rangers have formed a women's team and co-owner Richard Piper believes it's something new for the St Ann's community to appreciate.

"It has been a dream of Rangers to have a women's arm at our club. And for the past two years I have been in talks with Jason Spence (now head coach of the team) but there was always the question of finance," Piper said.

Although still under-budget today, Piper explained that Rangers have simply decided to "bite the bullet" and field a women's side this season. Rangers and Defence Force are the only two Pro League clubs with teams participating in the Women's League Football .
