KRISTI RENO-SINGH and Jada Renales are in a field of over 60 players competing in the Trinidad and Tobago Badminton Association’s Junior Tournament from today at Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Chagunas.
The round-robin competition will take place today, tomorrow and next week Saturday and is being used to determine seedings for the upcoming tournaments.
Reno-Singh, the top junior in the country, will be the overwhelming under-19 favourite, but the field of eight also includes Xadelle Mohess and Ashisha Persad.
After dominating the boys’ equivalent division for the last two years, Jason Ramjass is no longer in the category. Naim Mohammed, who handed Ramjass his first junior defeat in 18 months late last year, and last year’s national Under-17 champ Will Lee could be the main contenders.
National female equivalent champ Renales should not be challenged, but this field also includes national under-15 champ Ralitsa Wong and Rampersad twins, Tanya and Tiffany.
With Wong now out of the under-15 category, Ananda Ramsingh is the heavy favourite, but this field also includes Sandhaya Cassie, who completely dominated the under-13 division last year.
Cassie’s cousin Leon Cassie, the 2011 Caribbean under-11 champion, is also in the under-15 age group after being the dominant under-13s last year.
