San Juan out front in North East

Guard Dillon Howell scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds and made four steals to help San Juan Knights thrash Santa Cruz Cruisers 82-33 in the North East Sector of the Hoop Of Life Community Basketball League at the San Juan Basketball Court on Saturday night.

The Knights were dominant from the opening jump-ball and led 19-6 after the first quarter. The home-team then extended the lead to 38-11 at the interval, forcing the visitors to play from behind during the one-sided affair. Howell's team-mate forward Doyle Thomas scored 15 points in their victory, which pushed San Juan to the top of the five-team standings with four points from two matches.

For Santa Cruz, which had their best points production in the fourth quarter with 16, forward Jamal Lewis led with eight points and nine rebounds, and Dexter Bridgewater netted seven points and secured seven rebounds.

At Revine Road, Petit Valley made full use of home advantage to defeat St James 74-60 in North West Sector play. Talented forward Kemrick Julien scored 30 points, dished out five assists and made four steals, which guided to their Thursday night triumph. Julien scored 17 of his match-high points haul in the first half, as Petit Valley led 32-28 lead at the interval. It was Petit Valley's first match in the group round-robin stage, and the team was impressive as their fans cheered their every point. Julien got valuable support from his cousin Von Julien, who connected on 14 points.

For St James which lost its two matches to date, forward Garth Griffith helped himself to 26 points and ten rebounds for a double-double, while Griffith's teammate centre Edison Alexander also recorded a double-double (19 points, 24 rebounds). Ian Grant added nine points and five rebounds.
