Shak Attack turn back Diego Martin

Forward Kenyatta Alfred scored 20 points, which included four three-pointers, to guide Detour Shak Attack to a comfortable 84-60 win over Diego martin All Stars in the Men’s Division of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League on Thursday night at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex, Port of Spain.
The match-up was crucial for Shak Attack, who needed to get their playoff aspirations back on track after losses to league leaders the University of T&T (UTT) and Caledonia Clippers.
Shak Attack got 11 points from Alfred, together with five and four points respectively from guards Orlando Mapp and Kurt Christian to open a 23-12 first quarter lead.
The Laventille-based team also outscored Diego Martin 20-16 in the second stanza to lead 43-28 at half-time.
The third session of play was the same, with Shak Attack out-scoring the opposition 24-19 for a 67-47 lead.
Shak Attack, who moved into fifth place on the 13-team standings with 14 points, also got 11 points from Mapp and nine from forward Ojomin Pryce.
Shak Attack will take on the unbeaten Petro Jazz today at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, San Fernando at 8 p.m. and will be looking for another win to keep alive their chances of making the playoffs.
For Diego Martin who lost for the seventh time in ten matches, forward Gershwin Duncan scored a season-best 18 points.
In the Women’s Division, Quarters United stayed perfect after three games with a 54-46 win over Colours in first match of the night’s doubleheader.
For Quarters, who led 23-17 at half-time, point-guard Pietra Gay led with 16 points while teammates Tarik Hislop and Melissa Guerrero had 13 and ten points respectively.
For Colours, Bianca McFadzean kept her team in the game with 11 points.
The League will go on its Carnival Break from tomorrow and will resume on March 6.
