Shak Attack whip Monarchs 78-66 in Super 10

 Forward Sheldon Christian scored ten of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, which helped Detour Shaq Attack to a 78-66 win over Mackeson Monarchs in the featured match of a Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League double-header on Friday night at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, San Fernando.

Shaq Attack, the 2009 Super 10 champions struggled in the first two quarters and trailing 20-10 at the end of the first half and also 41- 39 at the halfway stage.

But veteran coach Steve Leonce and team strategist Gordon Felix got them going in the third quarter when the outscored visitors Monarchs, formerly Royal Extra Lions, 24-7 to open a 53-48 lead. The Laventille-based Shak Attack never looked back. Christian, the elder brother of national basketballer Kurt “Coto” Christian, netted four three-pointers in the game.

He was well supported his brother, who had 15 points, and centre Ancil Olliverre, who added ten from close range. For Monarchs, veteran forward Louie Davis nailed four threes to finish with 15 points. Henry Grant also added 15 and power-forward Andrew Ifill scored nine points.

Meanwhile, in the Youth Division, Jazz played all over Trailblazers to win 64-48 in a Boys 16 to 21 years age group.

Three players Czarek Nagir, Kelvin Henry Denzel Jennings combined for                     39 points and pushed Petro Jazz to victory. 

Trailblazers took the early team and were 8-2, but then their game just fell apart as Jazz closed the first quarter 16-12 and also led  32-14 at the half-way stage.

For the winners Nagir led the way with 16, Henry had 13 and Jennings, ten. For Trailblazers Juvani Andews led all scorers with 17 points, and teammate Isaiah Wilkinson helped himself with 13. The Super 10 League will go on a christmas break from, December 23-28, 2013.
