Trinidad and Tobago Red Force manager Omar Khan said that while victory over Chennai Super Kings yesterday was fantastic, the team had already switched focus and were planning ahead to their semifinal game against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
After Team T&T cruised into the final four of the Champions League T20 (CLT20) tournament with an eight-wicket victory, manager Khan said their happy experience will give way to their bigger goal of advancing in the tournament.
T&T shot to the top of the table with that win.
“That was simply one step towards our goal. We have not won the tournament but now we are qualified for the semifinal against the Mumbai Indians and we are taking it one step at a time, one game at a time.”
Khan said the team’s performance was due to “real focus and commitment”.
He added that since the team’s narrow defeat to Titans, “all the other games became important for qualifying to the semifinal.
“And they played with purpose and determination, they thought out the situations. You know the bowlers really came up trumps for us and that is a department that had not been performing up to the level we expected, but they came up trumps of course and we restricted Chennai Super Kings to a meagre score. It was easy sailing, in terms of the batting we have at our disposal, from there.”
Khan said Ravi Rampaul’s performance with the ball, yesterday, inspired the remainder of the T&T bowlers to raise their game.
The T&T manager told the Express it was important for the team to maintain the right frame of mind ahead of their upcoming semifinal.
“We need to prepare for specific types of roles for each of the players, get a better understanding of the Indians, and execute the plan.”
Khan added that with talent like Sachin Tendulkar within the ranks of the Mumbai Indians, T&T needed to formulate and execute a winning plan.
Khan also stated that the inclusion of West Indies batting legend Brian Lara has been a boost for the squad.
“He has been playing a key role in supporting the guys mentally, getting them to understand the purpose of our presence here and being professional. He has harped on the importance of representing the country with pride and passion, and the guys have soaked it in,” Khan ended.
