Jarrin Solomon produced a 46.55 seconds run at the New Mexico Classic in the United States, on Saturday, to climb into the top ten on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 2012 indoor men's 400 metres performance list.

Solomon is now seventh on the IAAF list, just one spot behind another Trinidad and Tobago athlete, Lalonde Gordon, who led the world two weeks ago with his 46.43 seconds indoor best.

T&T's 2009 World Championship bronze medallist, Renny Quow is currently 12th on the global list at 46.70.

Trinidad and Tobago and USA are the only countries with more than one athlete in the top 12 on the IAAF men's 400m list.

Five Americans are listed, three T&T quarter-milers and one each from Grenada, Nigeria, Czech Republic and Russia.

Nineteen-year-old Grenadian Kirani James leads the world with the 45.96 run he produced in striking gold at Saturday's New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, in Boston, USA.

Quow's 46.70 clocking came in the same race, the 2006 world junior champion finishing third.

Solomon's 46.55 run equalled his indoor best and earned him top spot at the New Mexico Classic, the T&T quarter-miler beating American Marcus Boyd (46.93) into second spot.

Two Saturdays ago, Solomon had clocked 46.93 in his first 400m outing this season.

Gordon has been enjoying a very successful indoor campaign. In addition to establishing himself as a genuine 400m medal contender ahead of the March 9-11 World Indoor Championships, in Istanbul, Turkey, the 23-year-old athlete shot to the top of the 200m world list with a 20.58 seconds clocking at the January 28 Terrier Invitational, in Boston.

Later that day, he was nudged into second spot by Bahamian Demetrius Pinder (20.53). On Friday, at the New Mexico Classic, Pinder improved his world lead to 20.50.

Gordon is currently second on the IAAF list, ahead of American Gil Roberts (20.63).

T&T sprinter Marc Burns is 23rd on the men's 60m list at 6.64 seconds.

To date, Annie Alexander and Kai Selvon are the most successful female T&T athletes for the 2012 indoor season.

Alexander is 16th on the IAAF women's shot put list with her personal best 17.70 metres throw.

The University of Tennessee student produced the big heave en route to gold at the Auburn Invitational, in Alabama, USA, on January 21.

On the same day and at the same meet, Selvon ran an indoor best 23.66 seconds to finish fourth in the women's 200m. The Auburn University sprinter is currently 17th on the 200m world list.

Ayanna Alexander occupies 23rd spot on the women's triple jump list with a 13.68m jump, while Selvon is 26th in the 60m dash thanks to the 7.30 seconds personal best she clocked at the Auburn Invitational.
