Dinesh Ramlal and Samuel Roopnarine took three wickets apiece to help South secure first innings points and thus capture the two-day BG T&T Under-19 InterZone final, yesterday at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva.
After resuming on 137 for seven replying to South’s first innings total of 178, East added just 31 runs to their overnight score and were eventually dismissed for 168, falling 11 runs short of securing the first innings advantage.
Ramlal took three for 30 in 19.5 overs and Roopnarine managed three for 45 which included the key wickets of Jeremy Solozano for 67 and Brian Christmas for just four.
On Tuesday, Justin Samkaran made 56 off 34 balls with 11 fours and a six which helped his team reach 178, which played a big part in his team winning the title. The batsman continued his great form the second time around yesterday and managed 58 from 50 balls with nine fours and a six as the South batsmen rubbed salt into the wounds of East.
They finished on 227 for seven as the game ended in the draw that confirmed them as champions.
Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the BGTT Under-17 tournament will be held today and will see Central playing North at Presentation College, Chaguanas and East facing South at the NCC.
