St Andrews tops at team championship

St Andrew’s Golf Club emerged the top team when the Whan Tong Agencies & Delta sponsored Trinidad and Tobago Clubs Team Championship at the St Andrews Golf Course recently.

Heavy rain, which stopped play for almost an hour, heightened the suspense and after the first five golfers had finished, the team from Brechin Castle Golf Club had taken the lead, closely followed by the Leewards G.C. team from Tobago and host club St Andrews.

With the last two groups having to finish under the floodlights at the 18th  green, home course knowledge and team depth proved to be the decisive factor as St Andrews Golf Club pulled away to win decisively.

Led by the Club president Anthony Hosang and club champion Deryck Gonsalves, St Andrews totaled 251 points and were followed by Brechin Castle 233 points, Leewards G.C. 227, Millennium Lakes Golf Club 226, Pointe-a-Pierre 223 and Chagaramus G.C with 205.

The overall Individual winner was Sheriss Rampersad from Pointe-a-Perre.

Golf clubs  nominated 10 players from all categories of golfers and included at least two from the nine handicap and below division, two from 10-16 handicap, two from 17-24 handicap, two from 25 -36 handicap. At least one lady golfer had to be included.   The eight best stableford scores from each team were then added together.

Teams from Brechin Castle G.C., Chagaramus G.C., Leewards G.C., Millennium Lakes G.C., Pointe-a-Pierre G.C. and St Andrews G.C all participated .

The TTGA president Andrew McEachrane thanked the sponsors for their support of the tournament.
