St Benedict's, Naps clash in South

By Kern De Freitas

St Benedict's College will look for their second win of the new BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) South Zone season when they host Naparima College at La Romaine.

The "La Romaine Lions" of St Benedict's had a very ordinary 2011, and narrowly escaped demotion. But they got off to a flying start in the opening round, thrashing newly-promoted Moruga Secondary 8-1 on Saturday's visit to Moruga. They will hope striker Jamille Boatswain, who scored five goals against Moruga, will come good again today, but Naparima have been the most consistent South team in the League over the last 15 years, and should prove tougher opponents. "Naps", however, under new head coach Jose Luis Seabra, will hope for a better showing today after they suffered a 3-0 whipping at the hands of Presentation College, San Fernando.

In the other South matches, Pleasantville Secondary and Moruga clash at Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, and "Pres" Sando travel to Princes Town West Secondary.

In the East, the battle of "El Do" will be most interesting, with neighbours El Dorado East Secondary and newcomers El Dorado West Secondary facing off at Larry Gomes Stadium.

North Zone action will see defending North League, North InterCol, "Big Five" and InterCol champs St Anthony's College visit debutants Diego Martin North Secondary. The Westmoorings "Tigers" cruised past QRC on Friday, while Diego Martin are still seeking their first points, having been edged out by St Mary's College in their Championship Division opener on Saturday.

Central Zone will continue on Saturday, the same day Tobago Zone is expected to open.

All of today's matches kick off at 3.45 p.m.
