Stampfli out in ITF semis
AFTER winning her very first ITF (International Tennis Federation) singles title the week before in the same country, Breana Stampfli was eliminated at the semi-final stage of the Copa Maya Junior Tournament Thursday in El Salvador.
The top-seeded player from Trinidad and Tobago went under 7-5, 6-4 to No. 3 seed Miranda Ramirez of the United States.
Stampfli and the Ramirez are seeded to win the doubles title and lost just one game to reach the last four. But the semis, which involved all four seeded pairs, were not contested on Thursday because of rain.
Stampfli reached the doubles final in all three legs of the ITF Caribbean Junior Circuit last month and was crowned champ in the first and third stages in St Lucia and Tobago, respectively.
The 17-year-old Fed Cup player, who had captured her first ITF doubles title in July in Jamaica, also reached the singles final in St Lucia and then again in the second leg in St Vincent.
Stampfli is now listed at a career-high No.331 in the world in juniors, over 100 places higher that she was ranked last month.
