BREANA STAMPFLI and Dunstan DeNoon were crowned mixed doubles champions for the second year in succession when the BG T&T Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament continued yesterday at the club's courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.
The top seeds needed just 63 minutes to dismiss Richard McLeetchie and Donna Chin Lee 6-1, 6-4 in the title match.
No 4 seeds Chin Lee and McLetchie had edged juniors Aaron Soo ping Chow and Aryanne Hart 6-2, 4-6, 10/7 when the semi-finals were contested Thursday night. But the 17-year-old Stampfli and DeNoon has also had things all their way in their 6-0, 6-3 victory over Jovani Lewis and Leah Alcala.
DeNoon and fellow left-hander Lewis will actually be on the same side of the net from 4.30 p.m. today when the No 2 seeds oppose top seeds and defending champions Yohansey Williams and Vaughn Wilson in an all-Tobago men's doubles final.
The women's doubles title match is an hour before, and features last year's runners-up Cindy Kabli and Christine Alcazar against 2010 champs Alcala and Fed Cup player Trevine Sellier.
The second week of the two-week clay-court tournament will get going tomorrow with the start of the main events (men's and women's singles). The veterans' (over-45) singles and doubles will continue during the second week, when the senior veterans' (over-60) draw will also be contested.
