Stosur goes no further

 \\\\\ NEW YORK

Former champion Samantha Stosur is out at the U.S. Open.
The 24th-seeded Australian lost to Kaia Kanepi 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8) in the second round yesterday.
Stosur, who won the 2011 US Open title, holds the distinction as the last woman to beat Serena Williams at Flushing Meadows. Williams has won the past two titles and on Thursday extended her winning streak at the tournament to 16 matches with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Vania King.
After three double-faults in her first service game, Williams was in control the rest of the way. The No. 1-ranked and No. 1-seeded Williams needed only 56 minutes to beat the 81st-ranked King 6-1, 6-0 to reach the third round at Flushing
Meadows.
Five of Williams’ 17 Grand Slam singles titles have come at the US Open, including in 2012 and 2013. She is trying to become the first woman to win the tournament in three consecutive years since Chris Evert won it four times in a row in 1975-78. Once her initial problems adjusting to strong wind in Arthur Ashe Stadium were resolved, Williams compiled a 25-5 edge in
winners.
