David Warner hammered 90 off 45 balls to keep Sunrisers Hyderabad in the hunt for an Indian Premier League (IPL) playoff spot with a six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in Ranchi yesterday.
Chasing 186 in a must-win match, Warner hit three sixes and 12 fours to lay the foundation for the successful chase, putting on 116 with Shikhar Dhawan (64 n.o. off 49 balls) before he was out in the 12th over.
They reached 189 for four off 19.4 overs, replying to Chennai’s 185 for three.
For Chennai, who are assured of a place in the playoffs, Dwayne Smith gave them a good start with 47 off 28 balls, including four fours and four sixes, before Mahendra Dhoni (57 not out off 41) and David Hussey (50 not out off 33) lifted the total towards the end of the innings.
For the Sunrisers to qualify for the playoffs, they will have to win their final match against Kolkata Knight Riders and hope other results go their way.
