T&T U-19s whip Leewards
Guyana scored a crushing five wicket victory over Barbados while Trinidad and Tobago registered a convincing 60 run win over Leeward Islands in round four of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under 19 50 overs tournament yesterday.
The Guyana bowlers, led by Herry Greene, tore through the Barbados batting lineup to dismiss them for 85 in 37 overs at Molineaux.
Green snatched leading figures of three wickets for 16 runs while Shawn Pereira, Romario Shepherd and Ricardo Adams had two wickets each.
The only batting resistance came from Shamar Springer with a top score of 19 and Jameel Stuart 16.
Kamesh Yadram was unbeaten on 23 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul 21 as Guyana made light work of the run chase to reach 86 for five in 33.3 overs.
At Verchilds, Jeremy Solonzano led a solid batting display as Trinidad and Tobago amassed 212 all out in 49.5 overs.
Solonzano top scored with 46 while Brian Boodram and Brian Christmas added 38 and 36 respectively.
Theron Bassue was the pick of the Leewards attack with four for 26 while Shaquille Martina and Collin Archibald snared two scalps each.
Despite knocks of 36 each from Avier Christian and Tristan Hanley the Leewards folded on the chase and were all out for 152 in 41.1 overs.
Brian Charles was the best T&T bowler with four for 42 while Tion Webster was responsible for two.
Meantime, at Conaree Sports Complex, the match between ICC Americas and Windward Islanded ended in an exciting tie.
Gidron Pope, who blasted a powerful half century, laid the foundation for the Windwards innings of 209 all out in 50 overs.
Pope scored hit five fours to top score on 58 off 65 balls and had major support from
Gian Benjamin 44 and Taryck Gabriel 36.
Farhan Malik took three for 31 and Stephan Rajasingham two for 55 to lead the ICC Americas bowling.
Tre Manders struck 69, hitting five fours and a six, to lead the run chase for ICC Americas while Talha Shaikh with 53 brought them closer to the target.
However, despite those efforts and a century stand between Shaikh and Farhan Malik who scored 21, the scores were eventually leveled on 209 all out in 49.5 overs.
Ray Jordan picked up three for 35 to be the best Windwards bowlers while Preston Mc Sween and Taryck Gabriel captured two wickets each.

Guyana won by five wickets
