Trinidad and Tobago will start their Regional Under-15 title defence against the Windward Islands in the opening round of the 2014 competition at Kensington Cricket Club ground in Jamaica today.

The T&T contingent, led by prolific Under-14 batsman Kirstan Kallicharan, left for Jamaica early yesterday morning, confident that they will return with the trophy.

Kallicharan was also in charge of the team last year when he led T&T to victory in what was then a two-day format with each team batting twice.

This year, the Regional Under-15 Tournament, now in its 19th season, will be contested under a round-robin format, featuring five rounds of 50 overs-a-side matches with the team accumulating                        the most points being declared champions.

In the other first round matches of the tournament hosts Jamaica face Barbados at Up Park Camp while Guyana meet Leeward Islands at the Melbourne Club ground.

T&T captured the title for the seventh time last year, when it was staged in the south-western Jamaican parish of St Elizabeth, by topping the points table following victories over Windwards, Leewards, Guyana and the home team.

Their only loss last year came against traditional rivals Barbados.

The two-island republic’s side narrowly edged out the Windwards for the top spot, with Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica and the Leewards following.

T&T Squad:

Kirstan Kallicharan (captain), Joshua James, Gereeb Louis, Nathaniel McDavid, Leonardo Julien (wicket-keeper), Te-Shawn Alleyne, Cephas Cooper (Vice Captain), Brandon Singh, Justyn Gangoo, Avinash Mahabirsingh, Chrystian Thurton, Kyle Madoo, Navin Bedaisee, Enrique Singh.
