Trinidad and Tobago’s combined Secondary Schools Cricket League and PowerGen Sports Club team won 28th Annual Sir Garry Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament with an easy 43-run win over Foundation School in the final at Three W’s Oval in Barbados yesterday.
Half-centuries from Shaquille McDavid (56) and Gabriel Blackwell (64) set up the win, leading the T&T side to 186 for nine off their reduced 36 overs.
Foundation School then slipped to 25 for five in the first five overs before being dismissed for 143 in 28.5 overs.
When the SSCL/PowerGen team won the toss, they too were in some early trouble after losing Ryan Oudit off the third ball of the match and Jerve Cummings in the fourth over with the score on 16.
McDavid and Blackwell then put on 115 runs for the third wicket, taking the score to 131 in the 26th over before Blackwell departed.
Blackwell hit three sixes and four fours and faced 74 balls for his top score.
McDavid faced 80 balls and slammed four fours. He also hit a half century (61) in his team’s two-wicket win over Combermere School in their semi-final match last week.
PowerGen 186-9 (32 overs) (Shaquille McDavid 56, Gabriel Blackwell 64; Pius Emillien 4/39, Javier Dowridge 2/23) vs Foundation School 143 (28.5 overs) (Shomari Gibson 36; Jonathan Williams 3/27, Ryan Oudit 2/23, Dominic Nandlal 2/24, Jordan Samkaran 2/25)
