T&T girls finish 8th
Barbados triumphed over Trinidad and Tobago to claim the seventh spot and the number two Caribbean team at the World Youth Netball Championships yesterday.
Barbados defeated their Caribbean neighbours 52-45 even though T&T held the early initiative.
“It cost us eventually” said Grace Parkinson-Griffith, noting that Trinidad and Tobago had played their best netball earlier in the week against Wales.
“They fought right down to the end in that game but today we saw moments where there were lapses in the game. The last two minutes is where it slipped away.”
The coach remains upbeat about the result of eighth place, as it is a two-place improvement since the last tournament when they finished 10th. “It is more than we could have imagined for.” she said.
Barbados captai seven, seven!” she said.
Holder and her teammates were instructed to keep possession of the ball and play it safe in the circle, and despite their opponents recording a better accuracy rate, they managed to keep the lead.
Coach Sandra Bruce-Small said it was a really good feeling to get the rank. “We wanted to remain number two after Jamaica in the Caribbean.”
“We lost three on the stretch and the girls were a little down so we asked all of them to dig deep and win.”
