T&T in NORCECA youth tourney

By Shammi Kowlessar

REANN Young, Kaylon Cruickshank and Sarah Low are among 12 players selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago next week in the NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Under-18 Female Volleyball Championships in Costa Rica.
The three players were instrumental as this country won the gold medal in the CASOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association) Youth Championships for the third time in succession at home in December.
Low was the Best Setter, Cruickshank, the Best Spiker and Best Blocker and captain Young was the Best Scorer and Most Valuable Player of that tournament.
Next week’s tournament is a big step up in class for the T&T girls, who are drawn alongside Guatemala and hosts Costa Rica in Group A. Honduras, Mexico and the United States are in Group B, while Group C is comprised of Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and St Lucia.
The two group winners with the best ratio will move straight into semifinals next week Saturday, while the winner of the other group and the three runners-up will contest the quarterfinals the day before.
The tournament serves off on Tuesday and the champions will be crowned next week Sunday.
T&T team: Aaliyah Alexis, Jordyn Ali, Nekeisha Blackman, Johanna Belmar, Kaylon Cruickshank, Johhalcyon Drayton, Alexandrea Jones, Shakeema Lake, Destiny Leon, Sarah Low, Nicolette D Mille and Reann Young. Macsood Ali (coach). Kamla Elcock (manager).
